Learning to learn:

A special pathway enabling all our young people

to achieve as much as they possibly can and to flourish in adult life

At West Hill School, we recognise that your child is your responsibility and concern. We want to work in partnership with you and we will share successes with you, and discuss with you any concerns we may have.

Since our first priority is your child’s welfare, there may be rare occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies even before we contact you. The procedures we follow have been laid down by the Surrey Safeguarding Board, and West Hill School has adopted a Safeguarding Policy in line with this for the safety and protection of all. If you want to know more about our procedures or the policy, please speak to the Headteacher or your child’s class tutor.

We take every precaution to ensure that all within our community are safe, healthy and happy. All West Hill staff have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are senior members of staff and their training is updated regularly.

Operation Encompass

The school has taken the opportunity to join the Operation Encompass scheme which will run jointly between local schools, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council.

Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting on any domestic incidents that occur outside of school and might have an impact on a child in school. For further information please see letter that was sent to all parents here and the Operation Encompass website.

Response to recent terrorist events

As is normal procedure the Senior Leadership Team is supporting all students and staff in relation to the terrorist events that have taken place over Friday and the connected searches in Surrey over the weekend.

The School takes its responsibilities to ensure the safety of both students and staff very seriously.  We remain committed to our Safeguarding and Prevent Policy to ensure all student’s safety and will continue to work with the authorities as and when required.

The police have assured us that there is no increased risk to the safety of students or staff.

For more general information on terrorism, including specific information for parents/ guardians and schools that you may find useful about how you can help please look at this advice from Surrey Police https://surrey.police.uk/advice/protect-yourself-and-others/counter-terrorism/
